SETTING/PLOT/LORE

It had been two thousand years since the last calamity and Hyrule had yet to see the birth of a new hero. Sheikah technology had become outlawed. Anyone found in its possession were imprisoned and their artifacts destroyed. "Such weapons are not needed in times of peace..." or so they said, waging wars with their detractors. The world was still reeling from the destruction the devices had done in the hands of evil. They were a force which was difficult to comprehend, even for most Sheikah. People were scared and looked to their leaders for guidance. Good intentions were executed miserably. There were many who resisted these laws. Almost all of them were obliterated.

The kingdom saw a return to glory though the journey there was rough. Hyrule castle became an impenetrable fortress, its surrounding Castle Town a strict gated community. The Sheikah still serve the crown but the relationship had been strained. They are no longer as free as they had been for the fear that they might know a forbidden knowledge.

Speaking of archaic fears, the Gerudo had seen not one but two male births in that time. The first was to the royal family, descendants to the once great queen Riju. Fearing their people would be the cause of another calamity the child's handmaid smothered him with a blanket as he slept. The Gerudo people mourned the death of the innocent child, knowing their fears had gotten the better of them. Some blamed the royal family for buying into the scare and allowing themselves to be lax with the boy's care. The handmaid was exiled but many felt justice had yet to be served.

The second birth was to a street rat. His mother named him Ganondorf out of spite. She never wanted to be a mother and feared what might happen to her should the royal family find out. While her naming might have been a bit too on the nose she ended up being wrong, at least about the royal family. They did their best to kneel to the boy, turning over some of their power, hoping to make amends. Ganon ended up becoming a marvelous king with no apparent drive for conquest.

But that did not stop the rest of Hyrule.

In their quest to erase Sheikah structures from history, Hylian forces stumbled upon the Gate of Time. Thinking it was another machine of mass destruction orchestrated by the Sheikah, they attempted to destroy it. Their Sheikah guides warned them that whatever they had discovered seemed much stronger than man's invention. They were largely ignored. The old gate didn't put up much of a fight either. Since nothing immediately happened Hylian forces continued their trail of destruction. That lasted about a week before the happenings.

Strange one-way portals began popping up all over Hyrule letting in men and beast alike from all across time. Efforts were made to return to the Gate of Time for an investigation though the site where they found it seemingly vanished. It has forced the rulers of each of the peoples to organize in a rather uncomfortable alliance. No one could comfortably wager their resources especially since it was the Hylian crown that was largely to blame.

Then there was the news that a Hylian princess was coming of age. She was said to have strong spiritual energy and that by awakening her powers she may be able to repair the Gate of Time. A hefty and controversial claim. She was named princess Zelda after those great Zeldas before her. It had yet to be seen if this girl was truly the answer to her peoples prayers and there was still a great time before she would be allowed to act on behalf of her kingdom.

With no known hero born she would be left to face her duties alone while avoiding the evils of the past. So much was at stake. Many of the other leaders would be unable to comfortably support her. If the age of the hero was truly over then maybe she would look to the past...

While it could be a good thing that evil isn't the only force being ripped from history, it is unfortunate for those who actually live it. They find themselves outcasts in a world of chaos. While they are not outlaws outright they are feared and mistrusted by most who learn their origin. A few of them have had luck banding together as nomads. They seek out old friends who might have suffered a similar fate. Some are devastated to find versions of their friends before their meeting, having no memories of the bond they shared. A few of the less battle ready have converted ruins into small settlements for their fellow stranded. Those who are brave might fight that fate. Those who are kind may work against the tides to help fell the evils. The princess hopes to reach those few so that maybe she can find her hero.

Canon character submission guidelines

One of the worst things a roleplayer can hear is that their application for their favorite character "isn't good enough," and while that isn't something our mods would say it is what it might feel like to have a character card denied. To prevent this from happening we've organized a list of standards we'd like our canon applications to have. Our goal is to make the roleplay as enjoyable as possible for everyone involved while still maintaining a level of quality.

We allow multiple incarnations of each character so long as said incarnation is canon but will only accept one application for each incarnation. For example: there might be a Hero of Time and a Hero of Twilight but only one of each. This is a new timeline so there are more recent, "fresh" incarnations but they are limited to 'mods choice.' They are selected and cannot be applied for or requested. We recommend looking on our server to see who has already been taken. We realize there's no easy way to explain this but we hope you get the idea. If this is still unclear @ a mod in the server.

Another fun thing to note, since there is some time traveling shennanigans you are able to bring characters in from any point in their life. Say you want to be BoTW Impa as a young girl. Or the Hero of Time as an old man. Cool! We're all for that! Our only reservations are making your characters too young. For the sake of keeping things reasonable we're limiting the youngest you can go to 12. We know there are younger Links. This doesn't change our decision. We ask you to age up your Link if this is the case.

If you really want to roleplay but our requirements seem too daunting we encourage you to apply with an original character as the criteria isn't as strict. Push comes to shove, you can always ask a someone to critique your application before submitting it.
